There are three key law of attraction principles you could very well be getting wrong. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but these are the ones that are often overlooked or misused. If this is the case for you, you’re not alone because changing mental output is very much about building momentum, once we start on this journey. At first it may seem straightforward, but in time we come to understand that employing these law of attraction principles is all about awareness. After all, it is our manner in thinking that got us into trouble in the first place and it takes time to develop that keen awareness and retrain the mind. The following three law of attraction principles are all about deepening this awareness and leaving no stone unturned. While we may seem like we’re applying the principles correctly, the effects that are being produced will prompt us to investigate the cause… or so it should.
3 Law of Attraction Principles You're Getting Wrong
Giving vs Getting – Most of us venture into this journey because we’ve reached a crux, or perhaps a point of crisis. We are suffering in some form, and it prompts us to ask questions and wonder if there is a better way. It is an interesting observation that the primary principle of magnetization and manifestation of “like attracts Like” is how we are naturally drawn by instinct toward discovering these principles. The moment we begin to relinquish the old way of thinking, the mind latches onto this new discovery. Understandably, when we embark on this new way of thinking it is from a point of need, so naturally there is a feeling of urgency to get those needs met.
Approaching manifestation from that “me” or “getting” perspective often doesn’t yield the results we’re looking for. This is because getting for ourselves actually needs to begin with giving. The first step in the process of giving, naturally, is to give thanks for that which we already have. Being in a state of gratitude puts focus on the things we do want, rather than that which we don’t. We’ll talk about this more in the next section. Another wonderful and effective entryway to manifesting our desires is to first give that which we wish to receive. Although it may seem opposite to what we feel we so desperately need, it sets in motion a growing energy of creating our own deepest wishes because, again, like attracts like.
Conscious Focusvs Unconscious – Law of attraction principles largly focus on the power of thought which prompts us to change the way we think. We consciously shift toward thinking about the things we want, but in doing so, we may also place our focus on that which we don’t want. Problem is, when we focus too much on that which we wish would go away, we are still placing our attention on it, which only creates more of the unwanted.
Perhaps even more damaging, is the spotty awareness we may have around monitoring our thoughts. It’s fantastic that we’re now entertaining more thoughts that are aligned with our goals, but sometimes we forget to monitor worry, fear, hatred, regrets, resentments and feelings of injury. To create a positive mental state of being we must continually observe and correct this propensity to revisit and ruminate. This means we must step up our level of awareness.
Whether we carry the feeling that we’ve been slighted, or regrets from our past, we need to place our awareness on when and how we expend energy on this. A portion of the day may be spent on thoughts that pertain to the positive, to heartfelt goals and the attainment of dreams, but if two thirds of the day wanders into the unconscious thought pattern provoked by habit, the one nullifies the effects of the other. Applying thought to the things of the past that we have come to hate only ensures its repetition.
It is not about pretending the negative thoughts and feelings don’t exist. The idea that we can just “think positive” and supress all negative emotion is a falsity. It is like saying we can obliterate the subconscious. What we can do, however, is watch where we spend most of our time. When conditions call our attention or we feel provoked, we can make better choices in how we choose to react and how long we are willing to fixate on the matter at hand.
Let’s say you have a situation that consistently calls your attention such as an aging parent with Alzheimer’s or a teenager who is facing challenges. It is a journey of time and patience. No one is asking you to pretend all is hunky dory. But consider that to be effectual, you will need even more sound thinking to guide you through. You will need to be diligent in not indulging beyond what is necessary to deal with the issues at hand. The more you apply focus and entertain good opportunities you don’t yet see on the horizon, the more smoothly will be the journey. It is about placing attention on what you do want, limiting the escalation of thoughts pertaining to worry, fear etc., and asking for the guidance you need.
Many of the law of attraction principles are quoted from the bible, from Hermetic teachings, from philosophers and writers of the new thought era, but perhaps within the sage teachings there is a disconnect for those who need guidance regarding internal blocks. The simplification of “just think positive” as the no-fail solution, may leave you feeling lost in terms of creating those positive feelings. There is fail, but in failure we find the most valuable answers and for each of us it is a personal journey of continually uncovering the wisdom within. Each time we reach a roadblock, we must faithfully ask the questions that need to be asked and then, quietly listen for the answers.
The law of attraction principles work without exception, but the path to discovery is not a one size fits all. Inside, you will know when you have exhausted a thought beyond its ability to serve you positively. That is your cue to create a new thought… a better one. Little-by-little, you will build upon the thoughts and feelings that bring you into a state of being/having that which you desire most. It is not only that we have a propensity to place focus on the things we are trying to push away, it is that we do not monitor how often we spend mental energy on them.
Abundance vs Skimping – The last key point on the law of attraction principles many people get wrong has to do with the act of contraction instead of expansion. The law of abundance embodies all that is. All that is limitless, infinite possibility, steady flow, unending resources, infinite wisdom, and all that good stuff. To explore the nature of all this goodness we must match it internally. We cannot close the gates of possibilities in our minds, nor our actions, and expect to see abundance mirrored in our circumstances.
I’m not suggesting that you run up all your credit cards and fill your house with everything you want as a demonstration of good faith and the “inner knowing” that it will be returned to you tenfold. There is a big difference between wishful thinking and creating a true state of abundance from within. No need to go play the slot machines. What I’m speaking of is expanding your state of consciousness. Set out to examine every thought, belief, feeling, behavior, and action that is not in congruence with the state of abundance.
If you spend lots of energy telling yourself the universe provides for you but then you repeatedly react to your ten-year-old with statements such as “I’m not made of money you know” or “we can’t afford that” or “it’s too expensive”, then you’ve found a crack in your thinking. It’s okay to say no, just think about the message you intend to send out to the universe, to your child… to yourself. Choose not to make a purchase and follow that by a statement that is more fitting such as “not yet” or “I’ll keep it in mind for when the money comes in.” Heck, if it fits, just say “I’m not going to get that.” It’s okay to say no.
Offering up justification and explanation only serves to reinforce lack. Sometimes we are never poorer than when we’re challenged by our professional boundary testers (aka our children). It can begin a cycle of creating less, as a justifiable means to say no, when all that we really need to do is step up our no-explanations-necessary ability and say, flat out, “NO.”
Look for all the areas in which you contract mentally, emotionally, physically. You will find many. When you decide to purchase something big do you accept it with a clear conscience and a heart filled with gratitude, saying to yourself “I will use this wisely to further my _________?” Or do you ruminate and worry about the repercussions? Decide to purchase or not to purchase, just do so with clarity and the right state of mind.
When you stock up on items do you utilize them, or do you hoard them just in case you might not find them on sale again, or you might not be able to afford them down the road? Make use of the things you buy. Make use of the things you have. Make use of your talents. Make use of your voice, your boundaries, your ability to give and share. Make use of everything that is positive. Don’t skimp. Feel what it is like to allow the flow of abundance within, with those around you, and you will see it reflected back to you. This applies just as much to the love you give to yourself as it does to that which you give to the world around you.
These are the key law of attraction principles many of us bugger up. It is really only a matter of expanding awareness and bringing attention to a new way of thinking, feeling, and acting. That which you put attention to grows. Think expansion and reduce areas of resistance and soon you will feel the effects. Things will flow better, and you’ll naturally attract positive synchronicities.
